Blog Introduction

I’m opinionated.
Sometimes I’m annoying.
I can back up everything I say and if I can’t, I look it up right away so I’m not just quoting garbage from the internet.

Most importantly – I come from conservative Christian stock and I’m a total Liberal. And, so I argue with family members often. Sometimes they’re just trying to yank my chain (and I bite every time because as I said above – I’m opinionated and I’m annoying). And sometimes these conversations turn the corner into ugly.

So why start a blog? Get my thoughts out for the world? Start more arguments with my conservative family and friends? Pats on the back from my liberal friends?

The truth is that my husband inspired me to get my ideas out on a blog. And, I love to discuss important issues with people!

The last part of my Masters program included a four-month intensive course in Philosophy. To use some slang – that course totally messed with my head. And, it messed with my head in a good way because I’ve never been the same since then. I was required to write a mission statement, with Bible verses to go with it, and I’d like to share it now:

I am physically active, justice-minded, reliable, and Christ-centered, as I commit myself in service to others through teaching, hard work, harmony, health and wisdom.

Bible verses which I find relevant to my personal mission statement:

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (NIV) “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.”

Matthew 5:16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. (NIV)

So let’s go back to the question – why start this blog? A few years have passed since I finished my program and my thesis. I will say now that my mission is the same, though I can synthesize it as follows:

I have dedicated my life to service, because I feel God has called me to service.

In conclusion, I would like to use this blog as a part of continually dedicating my life to service and as a way to hopefully bridge the gap between Conservative and Liberal Christians. So, my readers can expect to find (hopefully daily and hopefully not this long) posts about subjects that are important to me, based on my faith. Some of my favorite subjects:

Women’s Rights

Racial Justice

Domestic Violence

Empowering Young Girls & Women

Economic Justice

Environmental Justice

Human Trafficking

Animal Rights

Immigration Justice

Climate Justice

Peace Building

Health & Fitness

Mass Incarceration

Education Disparities

And lots of others…….

Thanks for reading and more to come soon. 🙂

Serve all with love.
