Community Solutions, located in Santa Clara County and San Benito County in California, has been serving people since 1972. My United Methodist Church is very small, but I am very proud that we are supporters of such a wonderful organization!
Children and Youth services are a big part of Community Solutions. They provide everything from children’s mental health programs to juvenile justice re-entry programs. There is a very long list of services listed on their website all of which are provided through MediCal billing. (Let us hope that the current health”care” act doesn’t make it though Congress, because it is programs like these that face the chopping block.)
Community Solutions also provides a wide range of services for adults. As with children, mental health services are a big part of adult services. I am so grateful to see that these kinds of desperately-needed services are provided right here in my community. They also provide wellness and recovery services, criminal justice re-entry services, residential treatment, and a DUI program. In addition, they provide food, shelter, and other services for victims of domestic violence within a safe shelter, and they have a special program for survivors of sex trafficking.
As if all of that wasn’t enough, they provide transitional housing for clean and sober living through the criminal justice system, work with the chronically homeless in two communities, and they work with people struggling with serious mental health issues to work towards independent living.
I am blessed to be able to serve as the collection coordinator at my Church for this wonderful organization. I was able to drop off several bags of groceries and diapers (which I am told are desperately needed) as well as a huge box of toiletries. Lucky for us, one of my congregation’s members travels quite a bit for work, so he has been saving all of those wonderful little sampler bottles for me for Community Solutions! (Just a tip – if you use Safeway delivery, buy a package of diapers and your delivery is free. Save the diapers for a worthwhile organization such as Community Solutions!)

Philippians 2:3-5 (NRSV): Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility regard others as better than yourselves. 4 Let each of you look not to your own interests, but to the interests of others. 5 Let the same mind be in you that was[a] in Christ Jesus,
Serve all with love.
