Saving the Ocean with Sea Shepherd Conservation Society

By Kristen Johnson

Our oceans are one of our most precious resources. Without our oceans, we would literally cease to exist, and yet we have polluted them beyond recognition, abused and overused the animals that reside within them, and generally misused her waters. Any time we can find an organization working to right these wrongs is a great day.

The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society is a fabulous organization committed to conservation:

Established in 1977, our mission is to end the destruction of habitat and slaughter of wildlife in the world’s oceans in order to conserve and protect ecosystems and species. We use innovative direct-action tactics to investigate, document, and take action when necessary to expose and confront illegal activities on the high seas. By safeguarding the biodiversity of our delicately balanced ocean ecosystems, Sea Shepherd works to ensure their survival for future generations. (SSCS).

There are several ways to support the work of this fabulous organization:

  • Donate: As with all non-profits, there is never enough money to go around! Financial support is always needed and appreciated. Donate here: https://my.seashepherd.org/donate.
  • Volunteer: What an amazing adventure it would be to actually get on a ship and go out and work on conservation projects with this organization! What an honor. See here for more information: http://www.seashepherd.org/get-involved/.
  • Education: Take a look at the various campaigns that are going on right now in the world’s oceans. The work they do is truly amazing. Here is a link to just one of the current campaigns: http://www.seashepherd.org/milagro3/. There are multiple current campaigns and they are all noteworthy so be sure to read about them all.

Psalm 8:3-4 (NRSV): When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars that you have established; what are human beings that you are mindful of them, mortals[a] that you care for them?

Serve all with love.
