Romans 15:31 (NRSV): so that by God’s will I may come to you with joy and be refreshed in your company.
Every year, my United Methodist Women’s group sponsors a “Candlelight Dinner” for people of the congregation to join together to honor one or more people from the congregation with a Special Mission Award, to reflect on the work of the Church during the year, and to enjoy one another’s company. As a notorious Scrooge, it’s the only time of the year I break out my one “Christmas sweater” and a time for me to find some Christmas joy.
The UMW Dinner Committee works all year to make arrangements for decorations, catering, entertainment, and more. I serve on the UMW Board, but luckily I have not been asked (yet!) to serve on this particular committee. It is a lot of work, and they do a fabulous job of it year after year.
Beautiful decorations, fun musical entertainment by some local high-schoolers, and a joyful crowd of 63 participants:
Gift baskets are given out at the end of the evening – the more tickets you buy the better chance you have of winning!
I won a gift this year – my first time ever:
The Special Mission Award this year went to a husband/wife team who work tirelessly on youth projects, including our “Wiggling Worshippers” group. It was a lovely evening and a great way to start the Christmas season.
Serve all with love.
